WENATCHEE — A man police say admitted to stealing $5,100 worth of meat, cash and electronics from the restaurant where he worked was charged Friday in Chelan County Superior Court with first-degree theft and second-degree burglary.
Scott A. Dowty, 43, the former kitchen manager at Applewood Grill in downtown Wenatchee, is accused of stealing $2,691 in cash, a high-definition projector and screen worth $2,000 and 50 pounds of meat valued at $250, as well as $200 in computer equipment on April 26. Wenatchee police arrested Dowty in a downtown apartment Tuesday after being spotted by an off-duty officer who recognized him from a photo. Following the early morning theft, Dowty never returned to work.
In an affidavit filed in court, police say Dowty admitted during a recorded interview to stealing the items and cash. Dowty told police he traded the meat and projector for cocaine and used the money to pay off a cocaine debt, according to the affidavit. The meat was recovered from a freezer belonging to the man with whom Dowty said he traded.
