Victoria HarbourCats at Wenatchee 7:05 tonight.

Wenatchee vs. Victoria

If it seems like, hey, haven’t we played these guys six times already?...you’re right.  But now the AppleSox get to do it again.  The HarbourCats were here in early July and the AppleSox won all three games.  When the Sox went to Vancouver Island later in the month the winning continued, but only through the first game of the series.  Victoria came back and took two one-run wins.  The first-year Canadian squad surprised the league by starting off with seven wins in their first eight games.  Fortunes changed.  Following the hot beginning, they have since gone 13-26.

Race to the Finish

North Division.  Wenatchee and Walla Walla are tied for first and Bellingham is a game-and-a-half back in third.  Today the AppleSox begin a three-game series at home with fourth-place Victoria, while the Sweets are at home for three with fifth-place Kelowna.  The Bells have no league games for three days.  Victoria still has faint playoff hopes, but emphasis on faint.  The picture hopefully will become more clear each day and the AppleSox can do a great deal to sharpen the image...or not, if they sour.

South Division.  Corvallis is a game up on Bend and the two begin a three-game series today in Corvallis.  Both Medford and Klamath Falls are alive...barely.  But their chances are so remote it’s not worth discussing.  Same old, same old.  Look for the Knights and Elks to face each other in the South playoffs for the fifth time in six years.

What’s With the Rain?

At home, first six years no rainouts.  Next four seasons, two.  Last three seasons four, and two them in the last four days.  Three-and-a-half innings to last evenings game with the San Francisco Seals the lightning started...and then more lightning...then rain.  Game canceled.

Bend Batters Battered

Elk hitters have been plunked by the opposition hurlers 54 times.  Cowlitz at 27 has the fewest hit batters.  Our locals heroes have received 37 passes to first base.

Swipe Happy

Corvallis has stolen 117 bases, far surpassing their own league record of 105 set last year.  And they have six games remaining.

August 5 Games

The AppleSox are on a roll on this date...four consecutive wins.   They are 6-2 overall and in league games, and 4-1 at home.  In three of their six wins they have scored 13, 16 and 16.

Standings

North: WENATCHEE 25-22, Walla Walla 25-22, Bellingham 25-25, Victoria 20-27,  Kelowna 17-30

South: Corvallis 31-17, Bend 30-18, Medford 27-24, Klamath Falls 24-23, Cowlitz 23-25, Kitsap 17-30
