SOFTBALL (15-3, 22-5)

Friday, Columbia Basin (10-8, 13-5) home.

A weekend series at home,,,ya gotta love it.  The Knights take on the fourth and fifth place teams on a diamond where they have won 57 consecutive games.  First Columbia Basin.  The Hawks accounted for one of WVC’s three league losses when they won in Pasco last month.  That is the only CBC win in last 13 times the two have played, and only one of five in the last 38.  The Knights lead the series 47-18 (at one time it was 14-13).

Saturday, Walla Walla (9-9, 12-18) home.

A southeast Washington corner split.  On the same trip Columbia Basin defeated Wenatchee Valley in March, Walla Walla did the same, taking the first half of a twin bill.  The Warriors have been a thorn in the Knights’ side recently.  Of 17 Wenatchee league losses the past four-and-half years they have inflicted eight of them.  But the entire series has been close, real close.  WVC leads overall 42-41 and in East Region games its 39-39.  In their own ballpark the Knights are 23-14.  Against WWCC coach Shelly Pflugrath is 33-29.

Standings:  Wenatchee Valley 15-3, Spokane 15-3, Treasure Valley 13-6, Columbia Basin 10-8, Walla Walla 9-9, Yakima Valley 7-10, Blue Mountain 2-16, Big Bend 1-17

BASEBALL (6-10, 11-17)

Wednesday, Walla Walla (12-4, 21-5) home.

Tough week opponent wise.  It begins with first-place Walla Walla and is followed by second-place Treasure Valley.  The Warriors come to town today with six straight wins.  Wenatchee opened the league portion of their schedule at Walla Walla and dropped two games, 7-2 and 12-6 to add to the Warriors recent domination of the Knights.  In the past five years WWCC has won 16 of 19 and leads the series 54-40.  On their own field, WVC trails 24-23.

Saturday, Treasure Valley (10-4, 19-7) away.

It’s on to Ontario Saturday to take on the Chukars, the defending region pennant winners.  Maybe the Knights are catching Treasure Valley at a down time as they have lost three games in a row.  When TVCC was here in town earlier this month the local nine took one of two, winning 9-2 before losing 4-2 in the nightcap.  After 66 games WVC trails the Chukars 43-23, but have won three of the past five.

Standings: Walla Walla 12-4, Treasure Valley 10-4, Columbia Basin 10-6, Yakima Valley 9-7, Spokane 7-9, Big Bend 6-8, Wenatchee Valley 6-10, Blue Mountain 2-14
