WVC softball at home Friday and Saturday

SOFTBALL (9-7, 14-11)Friday, Big Bend (5-11, 6-16) home.- One might say the Knights have done fairly well against the Vikings the past nine seasons, like they won 34 of 35.- At Moses Lake last month WVC swept a twin bill 11-3 and 13-10.- Overall the Black and Silver lead the series 61-13.  At home they are 31-8, have won 17 in a row and 26 of 27.- Shelly Pflugrath is 54-12 vs. BBCC.

Busy, busy week for all Purple and Gold teams

BOYS GOLFWednesday, Chelan-Gamble Sands Invitational- The Panthers head north tomorrow to Brewster for the second Chelan-Gamble Sands Invite hosted by Chelan H.S.- Last May WHS finished third in a field of 17 at this event.

Knights: Lots of action on the local diamonds Friday and Saturday

BASEBALL (0-0, 2-10)Wednesday, Blue Mountain (0-0, 6-8) away.- Today the Knights play the first and second of 28 league games as they open region action against Blue Mountain.- WVC has a 57-32 lead in wins over the Timberwolves, the only East opponent in which the Knights have the advantage.- On the Pendleton diamond the Black and Silver lead 28-17.- Last spring the pair split, each sweeping doubleheaders at home.- Of 89 games played, all have been league encounters except one regional game in 2009.- Dustin Willis is 12-4 vs. BMCC.

Today is one busy time for WHS sports

BOYS TENNIS (3-0, 5-0)Tuesday, Sunnyside (1-3, 2-3) away.- In 10 matches Wenatchee has never lost to Sunnyside.- The Grizzlies in league play beat Davis and lost to Eisenhower, Eastmont and Moses Lake.  In nonleague they beat Pasco. 

Knight women hoop team in NWAC championship tourney

WOMENS BASKETBALL (25-5)Wenatchee Valley is in the NWAC championship tournament for the second year in a row, and this the 23rd time they’ve qualified in the 38 years of the event.- The gals open tourney play with Bellevue (12-2, 23-5) at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Everett Community College.- The Bulldogs finished second in the North Region and have won 11 of their last 12.- In 26 meetings with Bellevue, WVC has been the winner 20 times.- The two have not played since 2008-09 and the Bulldogs have won the ...

Spring sports begin at WHS...three of nine teams in action this week.

GIRLS GOLFThe Panthers are on a roll.  They have won the CBBN championship three consecutive years and lost nary a league event in that time, winning 18 straight meets.  The man who heads this winning team is Doug Merrill who enters his 22nd season as coach.  Last spring, in addition to the league title, they won the district crown by a big margin and sent five golfers to state where they placed ninth.

Win regional game here Saturday and WVC women are in NWAC tournament

WOMENS BASKETBALL (12-2, 24-5)The Knights are East Region champions for the first time in 15 years, and the 11th time since the league started in 1978-79.  They now play a regional game for an opportunity to advance to the NWAC tournament.  This is a different format than it has been the past 14 years.  Since 2002 the top four teams in each region were in the tourney.  That has changed.

WVC women in NWAC playoffs

WOMENS BASKETBALL (10-2, 22-5)The Knights have earned a berth in the NWAC tournament for the second season in a row.  They are tied for first with Spokane and each has two regular season games remaining.  And they both finish with the seventh and eighth squads, Big Bend (3-9) and Yakima Valley (0-12).  The only difference is Wenatchee Valley gets both games at home while Spokane has both on the road.

Boys swimming, wrestling at state, boys basketball at district, girls trying for district tonight

BOYS BASKETBALL (10-2, 16-4)Wenatchee is the league champion.  Seventeen days ago they clinched a tie for the title and 14 days later had it all to themselves when they defeated Sunnyside Friday.  Next stop…district tournament.  This is Wenatchee’s fourth CBBN title – 1993-94 at 13-3 and tied with Kamiakin, 2007-08 at 9-3 and 2008-09 at 11-1.

Panther boys playing Friday for outright league title and number one district seed

BOYS BASKETBALL (9-2, 15-4)Friday, Sunnyside (6-5, 12-7) home.- A little drama surrounds this one.   Wenatchee will host a first-round district game the 18th.  A win over Sunnyside Friday means if they win that contest the 18th, they will also host the championship game the 20th, the winner of which moves on to the regional.  If WHS should lose Friday, they will still play the first-round game at home the 18th.  But, if they win that game they are not assured of their own gym the 20th.  It could be Davis.     ...

WOMENS BASKETBALL (7-1, 19-4)Wednesday, Columbia Basin (5-3, 13-10) away.- With a half-dozen games to go, Wenatchee Valley remains in first place with a 1-game lead in the East.- Today the Knights take on Columbia Basin at Pasco, a team they defeated 73-69 here in town last month.- At one time WVC had a 50-22 lead in the series, but the past nine years the Hawks have been pecking away with 15 wins in 19 games and the Knights now lead 54-37.- On the plus side, Wenatchee Valley has won the ...
