Knight baseball here today, softball Friday and Saturday

BASEBALL (0-0, 6-4)East Region play begins today.  Each team plays home-and-home doubleheaders with the other seven squads for a 28-game schedule.Wednesday, Blue Mountain (0-0, 8-8) here.* Two teams looking to move up.  Last spring WVC finished seventh (9-19) and BMCC eighth (3-25).* The series started in 1995 and the Knights lead 55-30 and 26-15 at home.* A year ago they split their two twin bills.* Wenatchee Valley has won 14 of the last 17.* In three seasons as coach, Dustin Willis is 9-3 vs. the Timberwolves.

BASEBALL (0-0, 1-1)Tuesday, Eastmont (0-0, 1-1) at home and Friday a doubleheader away* Today’s game is the first of 18 league encounters.  * The Panthers and Wildcats have met on the diamond 108 times since their initial game in 1957.* WHS leads the series 65-53 (36-26 at home and 29-17 across the big river).* Only 15 games have been of the league variety and EHS holds the upper hand there 9-6.* A year ago Eastmont won the first two league games while Wenatchee took the third and a district game.

WVC softball begins league games in Beaver State

SOFTBALL (9-2)The Knights begin the league season by getting the longest road trip out of the way first.  They open East Region play this weekend in Eastern Oregon.Friday, Blue Mountain (2-8) away.* 11.4 to 1.3.  That’s average score (in WVC’s favor) in the last 16 games with the Timberwolves.  That can happen when one team wins 16 in a row.* The Knights lead the series, which started in 2000, 46-17 overall and 19-10 in Pendleton.

All nine spring sports underway this week at WHS

BOYS SOCCER (1-1) Tuesday, Quincy home. * Today Wenatchee hosts 2A their third home game in five days. * This is Quincy’s first game. * Beginning in 2002 the Panthers and Jackrabbits have met nine times with the former leading six wins to three. * All nine contests have been in the Apple Capital and WHS has a three-game win streak. * This will be the ninth consecutive year they have played. * And it’s St. Patrick’s Day. WVC women two wins from NWAC tourney

MENS BASKETBALL (5-5, 16-9)Big games.  The top four teams advance to the NWAC tournament.  Each team has four league games remaining.  WVC is in fifth place one game behind Spokane and Treasure Valley.  The games this weekend are the final home games of the season.  The Black and Silver finish next week at Big Bend (8-2) and Yakima Valley (2-8).  A pair of triumphs this weekend would be kinda nice…to put it mildly.

WOMENS BASKETBALL (2-3, 11-7)Wednesday, Big Bend (1-4, 8-11) home.* The series, WVC leads 62-26 and 35-9 on their home floor.* Close.  The Knights have won two of the past three games and the three have been decided by 2, 2 and 4 points.* The Vikings had dropped four straight games until they topped Walla Walla Saturday.* Can you believe?  After the first 30 games between these two beginning in 1978-79, the Knights had lost nary a game.
