Fantastic Art from Used Materials, Classes, Workshops and Finding Your Own Creativity

Well, there’s plenty going on this week in the arts in the valley and beyond. First off I am so happy to announce that a limited selection of Martha Flores prints is now being carried by the NuART Gallery in East Wenatchee. The pieces really stand out there and there are even a handful of original watercolors by Martha there as well. They really look great and should do well there.

Saving the Earth with Recycled Art, Robert Grave in Person and a Whale of a Good time at the Gallery

Well, it was a wonderful art filled day on the First Friday of September. For me the morning started with putting out a blog on my other blog http://rodandmarthaartblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/fantastic-woodwork-fine-art-and-that.html and then I headed out to Leavenworth, where I met up with Brian and Anna Miller at the Icicle Arts Gallery (after a beautiful bike ride around the valley).

Icicle Prize and First Friday, New Art and Another Bike Mural

Well, I am happy and a little bit proud to say that the recycled art project that Martha and I submitted to this year’s Icicle Prize was accepted and is on display at O’Grady’s Pantry at the Sleeping Lady Resort near Leavenworth. There are a bunch of other great pieces by the other artists there as well. It looks like pretty stiff competition. So, we’ll see how we do.

Bicycle First Friday, Food and Art at the Museum and the Sea Fair Extravaganza

Well, I have to say that the First Friday Bike Tour was a quite a success and all the rage in downtown Wenatchee last Friday night. I for one was so glad that the guys at Second Wind were able to solve the recurrent problem I was having with my bike; so I could do the ride on my own bike and take the photos and video from my bike that I used to make a movie which can be seen on Youtube at: &feature=channel_video_title

Great Talents Abound and Great shows coming Up

Welcome to August, and it’s time to prepare for First Friday in Wenatchee, change out art at various locations and install the Charles Collins art work arriving from Taos, New Mexico … hopefully it arrives today. But, before I say anything else, I want to offer a well deserved congratulations to local artist Wendy Allan, who won the Yakima Ambulatory Surgical Center Award for her photo: “Giving Back”, at the 44th Annual Juried Art Exhibition for the Allied Arts of Yakima Valley. Well, yesterday was a fine and fulfilling day for Martha and I in our ongoing quest for artful living in this natural paradise. We each had some morning commitments first. Martha had an art student at 10am and I had to open Two Rivers Gallery at 11am and then resolve some issues with the gallery’s Amazon.com account.

The folks at Two Rivers Gallery held a Plein-Air Paint-out in commemoration of the grand opening of the new Saddle Rock foothills park. The idea was for participating artists to paint a Saddle Rock themed painting in one day.

Washington Mansion views of the Potomac, Murals in Town and First Friday

Well, it’s time to get back to blogging after a short vacation in DC, Virginia and North Carolina. Since returning it has been mostly work and getting caught up on so many projects and necessities. But in between all that hard work there has been some time for art and art projects large and small.

Street Walking Puppets and First Friday Artful Living in Wenatchee

Well, last night was a fun filled First Friday all around town. For me the first stop was at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, where it was all about the bicentennial of the David Thompson expedition. Our part was in donning the giant puppet costumes yet again. Well, not me but, Martha Flores and several other puppeteers. Bill Rietvelt was there of course as were many others involved in the giant puppet project. I only stayed long enough to help Martha get into her puppet and out to ...
