So far, so good. East Wenatchee’s Macy’s store at Wenatchee Valley Mall survived closures announced last week for 40 stores and layoffs of 4,800 employees. That’s about 5 percent of Macy’s 770 stores. The 40 stores accounted for around $375 million of the company’s $28 billion in sales in 2014.

Stacy Luckensmeyer | WVC’s adult education program is re-imagined

Rufus Woods and I met up over coffee recently and found ourselves swapping stories of different organizations and businesses locally that had reinvented themselves and why. For some, this came after recognizing a need to simplify, to return to their original mission so they could accomplish more. Others were seizing or creating opportunities that would bring about the same result. When we discovered this common thread, we realized the importance of sharing these stories of re-innovation and growth to inspire and embolden others to do the same.
