Cascade Artist Luncheon , First Friday and the Grand Parade

Hello art lovers. There’s plenty going in the arts this week in the valley. Monday was the annual spring pot luck luncheon for the Cascade Artists held in East Wenatchee. Too bad the weather wasn’t right for the planned outdoor event for which everyone was encouraged to bring their paints or cameras…oh well maybe for the fall luncheon. While there, Terry Valdez announced that he will be retiring after 30 years of teaching art in the Eastmont School District. Enjoy retirement Terry it can keep you busier that working for ...

Free Portraits at Special Olympics

Friday night was a great night all around town for art. While the grown up in the arts community were attending the First Friday activities at Two Rivers Gallery and Gallery 4 South in Down town Wenatchee, there was one TRG artist notably absent. That being one Martha Flores. While the rest of us were enjoying the new art at the galleries and imbibing in just at bit of that red and white fruit of the vine and eating hors d’ oeuvres, Martha was cranking out 20 free portraits per ...

First Friday Art Shows in Wenatchee

It’s first Friday in the valley, and that means lots of art to be seen. Tonight is the opening of the March show of Walter Graham Originals at Two Rivers Gallery. And, Two Rivers Gallery member Ken Duffin is exhibiting at Gallery 4 South where he is the featured artist there. I know they can’t wait to have Ken exhibiting again at Two Rivers Gallery. Both Galleries are having their First Friday events with Wine and hors d’oevres from 5-8pm tonight. So, a great evening will be had by those ...

Art Workshop by Martha Flores

The Art workshop which followed the International Women’s Day Breakfast was resounding success. Martha Flores, the Key note speaker of the morning breakfast, led the workshop. Twenty–seven participants made what was for most if not all their first effort at clay modeling. The budding artist did a meditational / relaxation period before beginning their individual projects…many indicating that they fully imagined their project in that quite time. The final products were amazingly good. So much creativity was taped into. They are all artist now. Along with this writing are some ...

March Art Instalations TRG and CAAC

March is shaping up to be a really fine month for the arts community in the valley. Both Two Rivers Gallery and Cashmere Arts and Activities Center accepted new work for their March / April shows. I personally got a glimpse of the Walter Graham works to be displayed at Two Rivers Gallery today and what I saw was phenomenal. The works would be a steal at almost any price. On top of that one piece will be raffled off at the end of March. Meanwhile a wonderful show has ...

Art Activity in the Community

There is a lot of activity in the art community going on. Thursday night Bill Rietvelt at the Wenatchee Museum and Cultural Center and a group of volunteers worked on the Giant Puppet project for the Apple Blossom Parade. Don Collins and a bunch of High School kids were there as were others including Martha Flores and myself. This was the first night that clay was put on any of the heads and hands. The kids and adults did a great job, even though all were unclear of how to ...

Opening Night Caryl Campbell

Last night was the opening for the Caryl Campbell art exhibit at the Robert Graves Gallery at Wenatchee Valley College. The event was attended by a number of students, local artists and community members. John Crew shared some details with this writer regarding the art and the artist. Her work ,mostly large oils on canvas, were from appearance and John's description reworks of earlier works. The foundational paintings were landscapes that then had new work over them. The new work appeared to be large renditions of a naturalists notebook drawings, ...
