Two tidbits from out of town

• Fiber fun: SGL Group banged together their new carbon fiber plant in Moses Lake in less than nine months and equipment is getting installed now. The fibers will be used to reinforce plastics so your elbow doesn't poke through the door panel of the new BMW i3, an electric car that'll hit the road (purring quietly) in two years. We mention this because the Grant County Economic Development Council is hosting a luncheon tour of the site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21. It costs $18, but that includes what we're guessing will be a high-fiber lunch. Get it? High fiber? For info, call 509-764-6579.

• Lots at steak: Gotham Ranch, an outfit out of Colville owned by Bryan and Deb Gotham, was the star of a video taped earlier this month in a beef marketing campaign for Ameristar Meats. The huge ranch was chosen for the movie because of its gorgeous terrain, free-range cattle and environmental practices, said Tim Loveall, Ameristar president. The Gothams own 2,200 acres between Republic and Sherman Pass and lease 70,000 acres of Colville National Forest for high-country pasture. In the video, the Gothams conducted a cattle drive that included three generations of the family. No word yet on the world premiere.
