Here’s a growlin’ good deal: Antique bear rug, $250.

This Alaskan Black Bear, shot and “carpeted” in 1976, is one of the showpieces from a local estate recently unboxed by Marc Taylor at Treasure Hunter’s Theatre, the second-hand store at 14 N. Mission St. in Wenatchee. A companion piece — a huge moose antler rack — will arrive in a day or two.

Sure, the ursine rug is nearly 37 years old, but Marc says it’s in great shape and not shedding. That’s more than we can say for the rest of us.

The bear is draped over a furniture piece outside the front of the store. Passers-by can’t resist giving it a pat, although some remain cautious. One teenager laughed, “I know it’s a rug, but it still looks like it could bite.”

Just so you know, Treasure Hunter’s Theatre will be moving at the end of March to its new location on South Wenatchee Avenue, a space that formerly housed the Habitat for Humanity Store (which moved next door).

For more info on the bear, the moose or the store’s move, call Marc at 888-2722.
