Machines from Smith Excavation of Cashmere continue site preparation — and boulder removal — for Town Nissan's new building on 3rd Street SE in East Wenatchee.

Whoa. That’s a big heap o’ rocks.

Tony Lisson, general manager of the Nissan, Toyota and Chrysler-Dodge dealerships for Town Auto Group, said boulders the size of cars popped up when excavators began digging the foundation for the company’s new Nissan headquarters in East Wenatchee. The biggest ones — maybe the size of 2014 Altima sedan? — had to be broken up to ship off the property, he said. The rest will be used in retaining walls and landscaping, or trucked away for other uses by the contractor.

Construction on the spanking new building, right across the street from Town’s Ford and Toyota facilities on 3rd St. SE, began two months ago and should be completed by February. It’ll be bigger than the previous dealership in Wenatchee, have more employees and be wired with high-tech amenities that cater to Nissan’s electric models. Think quick-charge stations that juice up an electric Leaf in 45 minutes or less instead of 8 to 12 hours.

Right now, Nissan is a “roommate,” said Lisson, of the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership in Wenatchee. With the new Nissan building completed, Chrysler-Dodge “will have some room to breathe again” and fully expand into its North Miller Street location. Town has no plans to move Chrysler-Dodge to East Wenatchee, Lisson said. “That’s a fantastic location that’s been great for us.”

Geez Louise, that’s a lotta cheese

We thought gelato was the last basic food group that could be added to the mix at Pybus Public Market. Nope. Joining fruits, veggies, meats, coffee, tea, bread, olive oil and salmon tacos (vital to human health) is gourmet cheese.

Dave and Barb Hambleton, owners of The Cheesemonger’s Shop in Leavenworth, announced last week that they’ll open a second location at Pybus sometime in November. Both domestic and imported cheeses will be available, including flavored cheeses, soft cheeses and cheeses made with goat and sheep milk.

“We think The Cheesemonger’s Shop complements the entire Pybus experience,” said Dave. “The space will also allow us to put in a few tables and do some things we’re unable to do in our current location.”

By the way, the shop fills the last vacant space at Pybus and brings the tenant total to 19.

Little Caesars spreads some cheesy love

The big-rig pizza kitchen known as Little Caesars Love Kitchen rolls into Wenatchee on Sunday (Sept. 15) to deliver — you guessed it — freshly cooked pizza for about 150 people in need.

The Love Kitchen will drive directly to Hospitality House, the ministry and shelter at 1450 S. Wenatchee Ave., and start baking and serving around noon. Slices of pepperoni and cheese pizzas are on the menu.

Four local employees will use the Love Kitchen’s ovens to prepare the pizza pies, which are provided through the local store.

“We’re excited to support this program with food and staff to provide a quality meal for people who otherwise may not get one,” said Little Caesars regional manager Joe Johnson.

Believe it or not, the Love Kitchen has fed more than 2 million people in 48 states and four Canadian provinces, sid a company press release. It’s even shown up to help feed folks affected by huge disasters — tornadoes in Oklahoma, hurricanes on the East and Gulf coasts and the Sept. 11 attacks in New York City.
