It's been nearly a month since I made these two photographs but I've wanted to blog about this and now have a little time. I was on my way to an assignment in Mattawa early on an April morning when I came upon a young fruit orchard being sprayed with water. A pretty interesting site but made much more photographable because the orchard was near a rock cliff that was facing the west - away from the sun. That provided a nice, dark background to the backlit ice trees. For ice to show its brilliance, it should have some form of back lighting. The first image is helped too because of the water shooting from a sprinkler - the source of the water.
