More than cute kids

As a photojournalist, I went downtown to photograph the Halloween candy giveaway with the idea to photograph more than just cute kids. I wanted to look for moments that told a story.

One of the first things I noticed was the large volume of children, parents, and candy. I found this scene and used a slower shutter speed on my camera to show action and movement around the candy table.

I made a concentrated effort to notice any contrasts between businesses and costumes. When I saw the business sign "3 Angels" I knew there were possibilities and hung out for quite a while for someone less angelic to walk by. It was fortunate there were three people to contrast the 3 Angels sign.

And I spotted this reaction while I was following what I thought was a great mummy costume.

I needed a closer or an ending photograph that could be used as the last photograph in my story and found this sign on a business window.

That would be the end to my story on the downtown festivities but I also headed to the miniature train to take a look for a potential photograph we could run the next day or hold when we needed to promote the event next year. I liked the way some of these girls reached up to touch branches while another was busy with her candy.
