It was getting late in the day Monday and I was roaming, trying to find an interesting photograph of our community and noticed a crowd of cars at Eastmont County Park. Children were at the fourplex practicing with their coaches and teammates so I wandered over, introduced myself to a coach and began photographing batters as they took mighty swings at the ball being thrown to them by a machine.

A couple of times I noticed the catcher getting sprayed by dirt as the ball would hit the ground in front of him so I moved to a spot where he would be backlit and the dirt being sprayed up would show a little better. I ended up waiting through several hitters, waiting for a batter who would miss, letting the ball get back to the catcher.

Finally, the catcher was engulfed in a cloud of dirt and dust as a ball came low and hit the dirt. I knew I could have something good because his mother started laughing as the catcher knocked dirt from his helmet. Looking through the images, I picked one where the ball had thrown a line of dirt directly into the catcher's face.
