If you are a believer that the stars have anything to do with our destiny, this is for you.
Somehow this evening, in the vastness of the universe, those distant stars aligned.
Dinner: Beef Bourguignon. Wine: Benson Vineyards Estate Winery 2005 Merlot.
We have long been fans of Scott Benson and his wines, as we are of all our local winemakers and their excellent wines, but hadn't had a Benson Estate wine in a while. I mean, after all, we can only consume so much! As we had used Merlot instead of Pinot Noir in preparing the beef , we brought up a Benson Merlot, thinking it would work well with our "Beef Merlot."
The beef dish was mellow, and so was the wine; fragrant, flavorful rich and smooth, it paired perfectly with our dinner. And providing a little music to accompany our meal was one of my favorite musicians with his first and probably best known hit: Don McLean and American Pie. Who can forget "....the day the music died?"
My favorite number, though, is Vincent - perhaps accompanied by coq au vin and a Benson Estate Pinot Noir? The stars will surely be aligned for this pairing.
