I feel we are on a movie set, watching a live-action movie being filmed. On the wooded ridge above, heavy smoke, trucks, noise - here a 'copter, there a 'copter, everywhere another 'copter, plus a few planes, with barely visible crews struggling in the background. These firefighters know their stuff!
Unfortunately, this is not a movie set; it's all too real. A few moments ago, Alex was out back on the deck, looking at the smoke, which is too close for comfort. On the mountain top north and east of us a very small flicker of flame appeared and then suddenly became more visible. Suddenly a helicopter, towing a huge bucket of water, roared into view and passed over the new flames. Whoosh...no more flames visible in that spot.
We have a terrific view of all this, and wish we didn't. We find comfort in having some very fine friends and family who continue to email and call, offering assistance any time of day or night.
Our area has some pretty great teams out there working to keep us all safe. This has been a busy summer for all of them and I hope, as they fight to keep us safe, that they get safely through it themselves.
