Pay It Forward NCW inspires us to be kind and giving

Virtually every day, I come across at least one person making important contributions to make North Central Washington a better place to live. These are people who choose to put community ahead of self interest and have discovered the magic that generosity to others is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves. Nothing increases happiness and contentment as much as giving.

Bar association earns state award for generosity

We received word of some good news about our local Chelan-Douglas Bar Association. They're going to receive the Rainier Cup for having the highest participation in the state for supporting the Law Fund Campaign for Equal Justice. Dave Reichert, conducted a couple of focus groups of conservative voters on both sides of the Cascades recently and the results were rather interesting. The focus groups were held in Kent and Wenatchee in November and those involved identify as conservative voters and participate in Republican primary elections, according to Lori Weigel of POS.

Methow Arts Alliance proves size of vision matters most

I'm impressed with the far-reaching positive impacts the Methow Arts Alliance is having throughout Okanogan County. This is an organization that sees the arts as a catalyst for economic development, improving civic life and engaging students in the discovery of learning. They're not just promoting art for art's sake.

What can we learn from Mandela's life?

I hope readers saw Tracy Warner's wonderful column in Friday's edition on the late Nelson Mandela, a truly extraordinary human being who changed the course of history in South Africa by leading the struggle against apartheid and who chose forgiveness and reconciliation over hatred after the struggle was completed.
