Knight softball looking good for playoffs, baseball needs a surge

BASEBALL (7-9, 13-13)The top four teams in the East at the end of the regular season advance to the East Regional.  At the moment WVC is fifth three games behind fourth-place Columbia Basin.  Time to make a move.  This week the Knights face the sixth and eighth place outfits and then the going gets a tad tougher…they finish with the four teams currently in front of them.

Panther boys soccer and baseball ranked in top 10

SOFTBALL (3-3, 3-4)Tuesday, Cascade (2-0, 5-5) home.* A game with the Leavenworth school has become an annual event as is this is seventh straight year the two teams 23 miles apart have met.* The 4A school holds a 4-3 lead in wins over their 1A neighbor.* Last spring WHS topped CHS 15-5.* This is the Panthers second and final nonleague game.

WVC baseball has two home doubleheaders this week

SOFTBALL (12-4, 21-8)Tuesday, Big Bend (4-12, 10-22) away.* Didn’t the Knights just play the Vikings?  Yep, only last Tuesday.  As mentioned before, a different schedule format this season.  I just have to update stuff form seven days ago.* The Black and Silver won at home 13-4 and 11-0.* Wenatchee Valley has defeated Big Bend 31 consecutive times.* In those 31 games the Vikings have scored but 33 runs…the Knights 307.* The Black and Silver have a 58-12 advantage in the series and are 28-7 in Moses Lake.* The Vikings have ...

BOYS TENNIS (5-0, 5-0)Tuesday, Eisenhower (0-5, 0-5) home.* Wenatchee is in catchup mode in this series.  Through 1998 the Cadets led 21-1.  The Panthers have won 17 of 18, including the last 14 straight and now only trails 22-18.* WHS is in first place at 5-0, EHS seventh at 0-5.* Over the past four-and-a-half seasons the Cadets have lost all 37 of their league matches.

BOYS SOCCER (0-1, 2-2)Tuesday, West Valley (0-3, 2-4-1) away.* The Panthers take on new league member West Valley today, but it’s not their first league game with them.  Back when WHS initiated soccer in 1986 they were in a group called the Yakima Valley League.  Members were Davis, Eisenhower, Naches, Selah, Toppenish and West Valley from the Yakima Valley, plus Ellensburg and Wenatchee.* WHS leads the series 4-2 and 3-1 in Yakima.* Wenatchee won the first four games and WV the most recent contests in 2009 and ’10.* This season ...

BASEBALL (0-0, 6-4)East Region play begins today.  Each team plays home-and-home doubleheaders with the other seven squads for a 28-game schedule.Wednesday, Blue Mountain (0-0, 8-8) here.* Two teams looking to move up.  Last spring WVC finished seventh (9-19) and BMCC eighth (3-25).* The series started in 1995 and the Knights lead 55-30 and 26-15 at home.* A year ago they split their two twin bills.* Wenatchee Valley has won 14 of the last 17.* In three seasons as coach, Dustin Willis is 9-3 vs. the Timberwolves.

BASEBALL (0-0, 1-1)Tuesday, Eastmont (0-0, 1-1) at home and Friday a doubleheader away* Today’s game is the first of 18 league encounters.  * The Panthers and Wildcats have met on the diamond 108 times since their initial game in 1957.* WHS leads the series 65-53 (36-26 at home and 29-17 across the big river).* Only 15 games have been of the league variety and EHS holds the upper hand there 9-6.* A year ago Eastmont won the first two league games while Wenatchee took the third and a district game.

WVC softball begins league games in Beaver State

SOFTBALL (9-2)The Knights begin the league season by getting the longest road trip out of the way first.  They open East Region play this weekend in Eastern Oregon.Friday, Blue Mountain (2-8) away.* 11.4 to 1.3.  That’s average score (in WVC’s favor) in the last 16 games with the Timberwolves.  That can happen when one team wins 16 in a row.* The Knights lead the series, which started in 2000, 46-17 overall and 19-10 in Pendleton.
