Panther basketball: girls home Mon., Tue., Sat....boys Tue.

GIRLS BASKETBALL (2-1, 2-4)Monday, Kentridge, (7-1) home.- There is a one-game history between Wenatchee and Kentridge.  Five years ago KHS visited the Apple Capital and the host team ran over the visitors 58-35.- The Chargers are members of the 5-team South Puget Sound Northeast 4A League and the school opened for business in 1968.- WHS is 2-0 vs. the SPSNE bunch – Kentridge 1-0 and Tahoma 1-0.

Panther hoops teams to play Lake City, ID today

The annual hoops exchange with Lake City from the neighboring state to the east is all that is on the Wenatchee High School athletic calendar for Christmas week.  This is the eighth consecutive season that the two schools 201 miles apart have met on the maple.  It is Wenatchee’s turn to point the bus east and make the trek on I-90 this time.

Knight teams hit road for another weekend of tourney games

MENS BASKETBALL (1-8)Friday, Saturday, Sunday, NWAC Crossover Tournament at Whatcom.- Friday Wenatchee Valley College faces Chemeketa from Salem (5-4) in first-round action.- The Storm has a 5-1 series lead over the Knights, but last December WVC snapped a 5-game losing string to CCC when they topped them 69-68 at a tournament in Bellevue.- Teams participating in the tourney are Big Bend (5-4, Chemeketa (5-4) Clackamas (5-2), Grays Harbor (0-5), Highline (6-2), Olympic (1-6), Whatcom (6-2) and Wenatchee Valley (1-8).

Knight women at 5-0 off to best start in 13 years

WOMENS BASKETBALL (5-0)Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Pierce Holiday Invitational in Lakewood.- The Knights open Friday against Lane (4-0) in the 8-team tourney.- A win over the Titans will even WVC’s record at 11-11 with the Beaver State outfit.  WVC is 4-0 at home, 2-4 at Lane and 4-7 on neutral courts.- The Knights beat Lane 96-77 last December at Chemeketa and have a 2-game win streak over the Eugene school.- Teams participating in the invitational are Bellevue, Clackamas, Columbia Basin, Lane Peninsula, Pierce, Tacoma and Wenatchee Valley.

Knight women 3-0, best start in seven years

MENS BASKETBALL (0-2)Saturday, Highline (1-1) away.- The Knights and Thunderbirds go back a ways.  The two first played in January of 1963.- At that time there were12 teams in the NWAC (actually Washington State Junior College Athletic Conference in those days) and divided in to two divisions, Northern and Southern.  Both WVC and HCC were in the Northern and eight of the first tine times they played were league games.- The Thunderbirds lead the series 19-9, have won five in a row and nine of 10.- The last game at ...

Panther bowlers 3-0, have won 12 straight

BOWLING (3-0)Tuesday, Moses Lake (1-2) home.- This afternoon Wenatchee hosts Moses Lake at Eastmont Lanes.- The Panthers have more matches against the Chiefs than any other opponent, 28.- WHS leads the series 17-10-1 and is 10-3-0 at home.- Last season the pair split their two matches, and Wenatchee has won four of the last five.

WVC volleyball ends season with home match at 6 o'clock today

VOLLEYBALL (6-7, 12-20)Wednesday, Treasure Valley (3-10, 10-26) home.- The Knights conclude their season today in Smith Gymnasium against Treasure Valley.- With a league win and a nonleague win over the Chukars this season, WVC has now topped TVCC four straight times.  This is the longest win streak either outfit has had in the 19-match series.- Wenatchee Valley leads the series 11-8 and is 6-2 on their own court.

WOMENS SOCCER (1-8-2, 2-9-2)Saturday, North Idaho (7-2-1, 9-4-2) home.- Wenatchee Valley concludes their season Saturday with a home match against North Idaho.- This Coeur d’Alene bunch has kinda beat up on the local squad through the years, going 13-3-1 and 6-1 on the local pitch.  And they have won six in a row.- In the first WVC/NIC match this fall the Cardinals won 3-1 in the state east of us.- Oh yes, Halloween.  The Knights are 3-3-1 on this date; in fact the “1” came in a 2-2 tie with ...
