Being a fan of female punkers, I was pleased a while back when I came across "The Soviettes" a four piece that is 75% female from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The band consists of Annie "Sparrows" Holoien guitar and vocals, Susy Sharp bass and vocals, Maren "Sturgeon" Macosko guitar and vocals and Danny Henry drums and vocals. The band formed in 2001 and while they didn't officially break up, they went on hiatus in 2006 for what I'd assume to be to follow other musical interest as the band members are also involved in other bands. Annie and Danny are in "The Awesome Snakes" and Annie is also in "The God Damn Do Wop Band" while Sturgeon is also in "The Gateway District". The band reunited for a few shows in 2010 and have since continued to perform together even though it's been on a bit of a limited schedule as they just finished up a short tour in September.

They have released four albums with the latest one "Rarities" being released in 2010. Over the years they have also released a handful of EP's, splits and compilations.

From their debut album "LP" is "The Land Of Clear Blue Radio".

Off of the second album "LP II" is "#1 Is Number Two".

And off of their third album "LP III" (notice a theme here?) produce by "Fat Wreck Chords" is my current favorite "Multiply And Divide".

While the band continues to do a few shows each year, they have stated that there are no plans for getting together for a full tour, however I for one am hoping the stars will aline and that a tour will happen....some day.
