Return trip to Sugarloaf

A trip to Sugarloaf lookout late last night with Josh Tarr to get some shots of the Milky Way and the fires. With clouds and smoke it was almost a last minute decision to take the trip. But the sky cleared and conditions, at least for a while at Sugarloaf were excellent.

Sugarloaf lookout can be reached by a fairly good road just outside the town of Leavenworth. My iPhone elevation app told us we were at about 5700 feet at the lookout, very little wind and the stars were bright. Along the way we met Shaun Brender, a great photographer getting images of the sky and fire too. Shaun has extensive knowledge of the Leavenworth area and was able to guide us to landmarks and locations concerning the fires.

Conditions started to deteriorate as clouds and smoke moved into the area. Stars either appear seemingly out of focus or have and glow around them rather than looking like sharp points. We called the evening and headed back to Wenatchee at around 2 in the morning
