My apologies for not getting these reviews in sooner. The Theater Geeks try to make our reviews timely, but sometimes life gets in the way. So, Leavenworth Summer Theater…here you go! I hope your final weekend is wonderful! Folks, get out there and see these shows!

Thoroughly Modern Millie

If you like dancing, you’re going to love “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Director Philip Evart Lacey has created a funny and energetic rendition of this comedic musical. The story is of a young woman starting her life in the Big Apple in 1922. While on the hunt for the perfect job (not to mention the perfect bachelor boss), Millie needs all kinds of interesting people. Some have her best interests at heart and some who certainly do not. Millie is played by Lily Cohen who does a great job giving us a Millie with a lot of drive, passion and fun. The whole cast puts their all into the dancing and the adventure that takes the audience from penthouse suites to back alley danger. Standout performances include Jeanine Salter as Mrs. Meers, Daina Toevs as Muzzy and David Harvill as Trevor Graydon. The supporting performances were top notch! You got one more weekend to see it, people. Get out there!

Annie Get Your Gun

Director Tiffany Mausser’s “Annie Get Your Gun” is joy from start to finish. I saw this movie many years ago and really didn’t like it. But the cast and crew of this high energy musical have made me a believer. Cherisse Martinelli makes a fabulous Annie…what a grungy, sharpshooting tomboy she starts out as. You pretty much fall in love with the character immediately. As we follow her journey from the backwoods to the bright lights of Buffalo Bill’s Traveling Wild West Show, we get treated to dancing, silly jokes, shooting matches and battles of the sexes. This updated version of the script gives the audience stronger characters and a slightly new ending which was more satisfying to me and gave the character of Frank Butler three dimensions where before there was only about one. David Harvill plays Frank really well. The whole cast is really outstanding… and I know they probably all want to be named, but dang it, you all stood out and I need to get this review posted! All I can do is express my huge thanks to the whole cast and crew for providing me with such a delightful evening of fun. Readers, if you haven’t seen this one, get your booty over there before the show closes!

Seriously. Go get tickets now! You’ll be glad you did.
