...WINTER STORM FOR MUCH OF THE REGION POSSIBLE LATE THIS WEEK... .A LONG PERIOD OF LIGHT ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL ADD UP TO POSSIBLE MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OVER A 24 TO 36 HOUR PERIOD. ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL BEGIN THURSDAY AFTERNOON IN THE CASCADES AND BEGINNING THURSDAY EVENING OVER THE REST OF THE REGION. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF OVER MOST AREAS BY LATE FRIDAY...SNOW SHOWERS

In late August last year an attractive well-dressed woman walked into the Apple Cup Café in Chelan and sat down at a nearby table. Smoke from the devastating fires still hung in the air in the Lake Chelan Valley. Many vacationers had canceled reservations and the restaurant was unusually quiet that summer evening.

Vicki Olson Carr | Shot and discus records fall in Chelan

Before Bill Veroske graduated in 1942, he set a Chelan High School record in the shot put with a heave of 50 feet, 7 inches. His strength and power were gained from stacking green lumber during summers at Harris sawmill in Ardenvoir and working in the apple orchard at the family ranch on the Entiat River.
