Spring releases aplenty

The bees are buzzing, orchard blossoms and hillside wildflowers are in full bloom. Spring is in the air.

And that means white and rose wines are ready to bottle.

Spring is a busy time at local wineries and also a great time to stop in to taste the latest spring releases.

Wineries around Lake Chelan make an event of the occasion. Chelan Nouveau takes place this weekend and next, always the last two weekends of April.

Some 14 wineries around the lake or close by will be offering new wines, mostly whites and rosés, but also some reds.

In downtown Chelan, The Vogue, a Liquid Lounge, will start the whole thing off with the first of a series of monthly wine tastings from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17. There's a $5 charge there as there is at some wineries, but the fin is refunded if you buy a bottle of wine.

Featured wines at the Vogue this month are from Horan Cellars. That's a very good Wenatchee winery, by the way, so you'll still have to hit the Chelan and Manson wineries if you want to taste what's going on in the Lake Chelan AVA.

Many other wineries between Quincy, Wenatchee and Leavenworth will also be open for spring tastings too. So act like a bee and buzz around and see what new delicious nectars are waiting to be discovered.
