Spring is also when wine competitions get started. There are competitions all over the country and the world, each with their own area of specialization, premise and prestige.
The most important one locally, I would hope, is the upcoming North Central Washington Wine Awards, put on by Foothills magazine and World Publishing. More about that in a blog later this week about how local wineries can enter.
But let's get started here on some recent awards won elsewhere and other bits of news from local wineries. I'm sure I'll miss all kinds of stuff, so be sure to give me a call or write to let me know of other recent news. I'll try to update this once a month or so.
Martin Scott Winery: Platinum for its 2010 Malbec; Silver for 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon at the San Diego International Wine Competition.
Tsillan Cellars: 2010 Reserve Syrah wins gold at the 2013 New World International Wine Competition; earns a 91 point rating from Wine Spectator.
Wedge Mountain Winery: 2010 Syrah wins Double Gold at the 2012 American Wine Society Commercial Wine Competition.
Wedge Mountain also recently redesigned its website many new features including a chatty blog by owners Mary Ann and Charlie McKee. Check it out at wedgemountainwinery.com.
