Winemaker's Journal — Leavenworth Wine Festival

Are you ready for another big wine binge? It seems like there's one to be had every week of the summer these days.

One of the oldest and longest running in the region will take place from noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday when Leavenworth holds its 12th Annual Wine Tasting Festival. Only it's not in Leavenworth. As in the past few years, the outdoor event is held at Smallwood's Harvest on Highway 2 near Peshastin. Usually, it's the kids who are in charge at Smallwood's. Not Saturday. The adults have to have some fun too and this is their day.

More than 20 local wineries, cideries and distillers have been invited to pour their drinks for the afternoon event. Several Leavenworth eateries will have food. Jr. Cadillac & The Wickes will provide the rock 'n' roll entertainment. A shuttle bus is available for safe, free transportation between the Leavenworth Park & Ride and Smallwood's from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The $40 per person, $75 per couple, cost includes a wine glass, 15 tastes of wine, beer or cider and food. Wine, cider and spirits can be purchased by the bottle. There will also be drawings for free bottles of wine.

Advance tickets can be purchased online at cascadefarmlands.com, or at the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce the day of the event. For more information, call the chamber at 548-5807.
