A furry crime-fighter: Axel, a 2-year-old German shepherd, is a new patrol dog for the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office. He has been assigned to work with Deputy Mike Lamon (in photo).
Axel’s fee and the cost of training him came from a $15,000 donation from Aaron Mathison, said Sheriff Brian Burnett. Mathison could not be reached for comment but, Burnett said, he told the sheriff that he thinks the dog would be helpful in finding fleeing suspects in local orchards.
Burnett would like a second patrol dog and said he welcomes donations, made out to the department’s Canine Fund at P.O. Box 36, Wenatchee, 98807.
