Men in black — cars, that is

Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett thinks black has more clout than beige.

That’s one of the reasons he’s ordered 10 new patrol vehicles in black. The other reason: “We had too many different-colored beige cars,” Burnett said.

Over the next few weeks, all of the black cars are being outfitted with law enforcement equipment like lights and computers. Four of them are already on the road.

The cars will also have a new logo, which, Burnett said, should make the cars more easily identifiable.

The vehicles are part of the usual rotation of new vehicles in the fleet of about 60 Sheriff’s Office vehicles, Burnett said.

They are two Ford pickups, two Chevy Tahos and six Fords called Police Interceptors. That is Ford’s new police car, since the company stopped making the traditional Crown Victoria last year, Burnett said.

The new cars, the sheriff said, are “very eye catching, sharp and professional looking. They also give off a strong officer presence, showing who’s in charge when the deputies pull up at a scene.” — Dee Riggs, World staff
