McKenna Schwab, a 9-year-old East Wenatchee girl, hoped people would donate 500 items for her toy drive on Make A Difference Day on Oct. 27. She got double that, reports her mother, Melissa Schwab. McKenna’s drive brought in 500 toys for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, and 500 toys for the Women’s Resource Center in Wenatchee, along with $1,000 in cash and gift cards. Those will be split between the two organizations. Born with joint abnormalities called Larsen Syndrome, McKenna has had 10 surgeries, all at Children’s Hospital. A story about her toy drive was featured in The Wenatchee World on Oct. 24.
