Several contested races in North Central Washington
NCW — The mayors of Quincy, Oroville and Brewster all have challengers, along with quite a few other positions up for election in North Central Washington this year.
Candidates for open positions had to file for election this week.
NCW candidates who filed Thursday
These are the candidates in North Central Washington who filed for election on Thursday. Today is the last day to file for dozens of open positions on city councils, school boards, hospital commissions and other districts such as fire and cemetery. The deadline for filing online in any of the four counties is 4 p.m. Candidates wishing to file in person can do so at their local county auditor’s office, by 4 p.m. in Okanogan County, by 4:30 p.m. in Douglas County, and by 5 p.m. in Chelan or Grant counties.

NCW — Two requests to issue school bonds are still failing after more ballots were counted Friday. The measures by the Entiat and Okanogan school district to issue bonds to renovate buildings needed 60 percent approval to pass.
The Entiat School District’s request for a $7.952 million bond is failing with 57.8 percent of voters in favor. The Okanogan School District’s request for a $1.15 million bond to repair its buildings is failing with 58.3 percent in favor.

WENATCHEE — Several school and ambulance levies in Chelan and Okanogan counties are all passing after ballots were counted in Tuesday’s special election.
But two bond issues sought by the Entiat and the Okanogan school district are currently falling short of the required 60 percent needed to pass.

Levy passes: will keep clinic, ambulance in Waterville
A $65,000 special levy passed and will fund the Waterville Clinic and ambulance service.
Voters approve Eastmont levy
EAST WENATCHEE — Residents in the Eastmont School District voted to pass a levy to renew a four-year maintenance-and-operations levy. The levy has provided about 15 percent of the district’s general-fund budget for the past four years.
Condotta easily wins re-election
Rep. Cary Condotta captured nearly 65 percent of the votes to win a sixth term in office.

Bud Hover takes state’s top agriculture job
OLYMPIA — Bud Hover, a former two-term Okanogan County commissioner, was appointed Tuesday as the new director of the state Department of Agriculture.
Hover, 58, runs a 2,300-acre hay and cattle ranch near Winthrop. He was county commissioner for eight years and served until January, after losing his bid for re-election to Ray Campbell by 10 votes.
