Rob Libke, 57, a long time Wenatchee resident and the Founder of Libke Insurance Associates, died of natural causes, unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on April 30, 2007. Rob was born to Marili and Al Libke Sr. in Wenatchee on December 2, 1949. He attended local schools and graduated from Wenatchee High School, where he was an athlete, lettering in football, basketball and tennis. Rob was the Washington State doubles champion in 1968. He attended the University of Washington, where he pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Following his college years, Rob moved to Southern California where he worked for a new CBS subsidiary, Pacific Stereo. While in Southern California, Rob continued his basketball endeavors at a very high level. Rob was respected in that region for leading his team to winning the nationally known, Newport Beach Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament, participating against hundreds of competitors that included college All-Americans and professional players. Rob returned to Wenatchee on Mothers' Day in 1980, and made the decision to join his father, Al Libke Sr., who was then President of Libke, Jones & Mitchell Insurance Agency. Rob developed a genuine love for the business and the customers, and worked long hours to prepare for his father's retirement. In 1997, that agency was restructured, with Rob founding Libke Insurance Associates to carry on the tradition of his extraordinary father, Al Sr. To further the tradition of carrying on the family owned Insurance Agency, Jeff Rounds joined Rob at Libke Insurance Associates. Jeff is the son of Marili Rounds, Rob's sister. Rob began mentoring and coaching Jeff to someday become the next President of Libke Insurance Associates. That time has now come, and Jeff has stepped up very capably to take the third-generation reins of the Agency, just as Rob and the late Al Sr., had envisioned. Rob had a unique global view and genuinely understood the bigger game of life. He lived with a rare sense of caring for and giving to others, asking nothing in return. He often spoke of the Libke Insurance Agency staff as part of his family. He became the pivot for all of his family and devoted extraordinary amounts of his personal time to caring for them. He took great pleasure in celebrating holidays and special occasions with his family. Rob contributed great support, caring and companionship to his Mother, Marili and his step-father, Paul Benjamin. He assisted his respected uncle, the late Joe Bulleri and his special aunt, Roberta Bulleri in visiting and caring for their beloved son, Peter, Lakeland Village, WA. Rob was a remarkable supporter of his brother, Dr. Al Libke, Jr. Rob worked with Al and his partner, Rich Wooten, helping them to create state-of-the-art preventive medicine technology, aimed at moving U.S. heath care toward a new focus on prevention. Rob and Al communicated almost daily. Rob was a ranked Northwest Amateur tennis player in the 1980s and 1990s. He was past President of the Wenatchee Racquet and Athletic Club and was a member of the Western Tennis Association Board. He had served as Past President of the Chelan-Douglas Independent Insurance Agents Association. Rob was active in the organizing of the Wenatchee Downtown Business Association and he was a supporter of the Wenatchee Valley YMCA, the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival and United Way. Rob is survived by his mother and step father, Marili and Paul Benjamin of Wenatchee; his brother, Albert Libke, Jr., M.D. of Ketchum, ID; his sister, Marili Rounds and friend Gary Haugsven of Redmond, WA; by nephew, Jeff Rounds and his wife, Jill of Wenatchee; by nephew, Corby Rounds of Ellensburg, WA; by niece, Charyn Lhyle and her husband, Marke of Kirkland, WA; by niece, Kenna Libke of Hailey, ID; and by four special great-nephews. Rob is also survived by his aunts, Roberta Bulleri of Quincy, WA, Mary Frances Sterns of Vancouver, WA, Dolores Turner of Jackson, CA, Lucille Olsen of El Cajon, CA; and many cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, King Street in Wenatchee, on Friday, May 11, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are made by Jones & Jones. The family suggests that Memorials may be made to the Wenatchee Valley YMCA or other charity of choice.
