In Memoriam: Pearl Cornwell of Quincy, WA
Wednesday, October 31, 2007
Pearl Cornwell went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2007, where she surely was welcomed by those she so longed to see again. Pearl was born to George and Martha Phillips on December 26, 1924, at Roxboro, (White Bluffs) WA. Pearl graduated from Othello High School in 1944; shortly thereafter, she married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Ernest Hardt. In 1958, they purchased a farm in the Quincy Valley, where they worked side by side, raising their three children until Melvin's death in 1961. Pearl continued to manage the farm and raise the children, while sometimes working outside the home. Some of the businesses that she worked at were, Raymond & Bradley, Akins, Triple T Meats and Forney Fruit. In addition to White Bluffs, Othello and Quincy, Pearl has lived in Lind, Ritzville, Ruff and Marlin. In 1975, Pearl was blessed with love once again and married Roy Cornwell. Pearl joined the Moose Lodge in 1969, and was a very active member. She held many different positions over the years and was proud of her accomplishments. Through the Moose, Pearl felt she was helping others and that brought her joy and gave her a purpose later in life. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and one of her fondest memories is of teaching Sunday school. Pearl is survived by one sister, Loretta Olson of Coeur d'Alene, ID; five children, Donald Hardt of Quincy, Miriam (Brian) Hawkins of Lynnwood, Duane (Terri) Hardt of Quincy, Peggy (Bob) Thomson and Richard Cornwell, both of Yakima; five grandchildren, Lana (Pete) Lane of Marysville, Robert Melvin (Cindy) Hawkins of Brush Prairie, Melvin (Laura) Hardt of Moses Lake, David Hardt of Quincy and Jacob Hardt of Ephrata; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by both of her beloved husbands, Melvin and Roy; by her parents, George and Martha; and her five brothers, Alfred, Arthur, Frank, Harold and Cecil; and two sisters, Lydia and Nora. Also preceding her in death was Ernest and Martha Hardt, whom she dearly loved. We, the family, would like to thank all of those who loved and prayed for Pearl during the difficult times of her life. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 3, 2007, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. at Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel in Quincy. A Celebration of Pearl's Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Poindexter. Concluding Services and Interment will follow in the Quincy Valley Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel in Quincy.
