Mary Ellen Sutor Dahlgreen Pflugrath of Wenatchee

Mary Ellen Sutor Dahlgreen Pflugrath, a resident of Wenatchee and former resident of Leavenworth, died September 7, 2007 of Alzheimer's disease. She was born on July 22, 1923, to Fred and Clara (Biersdorf) Sutor in Yakima, where she graduated from Yakima High School in 1941. She received a teaching degree from Central Washington Normal School in 1943, and began her elementary school teaching career in Puyallup. On August 3, 1947, she married Allen K. Dahlgreen in Yakima. While Al was attending college at the University of Washington, Mary Ellen taught in the Shoreline School District in Seattle. They moved to Ardenvoir and later to Leavenworth. In 1957, they moved to McCall, ID and in 1966, to Ogden, UT. In 1978, they returned to Leavenworth and built a home on the Icicle River. Mary Ellen worked part time at Der Market Platz and volunteered at the elementary school and the public library. She was a member of Chumstick Grange #819 and Faith Lutheran Church and the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church. Al died on July 18, 1985. On June 21, 1987, Mary Ellen married Sam Pflugrath at Leavenworth. They lived in Leavenworth until their move to Wenatchee in 2000. Sam died on November 8, 2005. Mary Ellen was a gifted primary school teacher, much loved by her students. She loved playing bridge and visiting with friends and family. Survivors include one son, Matt Dahlgreen of Wenatchee and his wife, Lisa Dahlgreen; one daughter, Mary Kay Dahlgreen of Corvallis, OR and her husband, Garry Stephenson; and one granddaughter, Maya Dahlgreen of Wenatchee; sister Helen Sanman of Everett, sister and brother-in-law, Gerry and Oscar Borchardt of Renton. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Ralph and James Sutor. Services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church in Leavenworth. Those who wish may make donations in her name to the Alzheimer's Association at 12721 30th Avenue NE #101, Seattle, WA 98125. Ward's Funeral Chapel of Leavenworth is in charge of the arrangements.
