Johan "John" Brathen

John passed away April 26, 2008, at home. John was born August 3, 1937, in Nakkerud, Norway to Haakon and Olga Braathen. The family came to Riverside, WA in 1952. John graduated from Riverside High School in 1956, then joined the Navy and served from 1956 to 1960. Upon returning from the Navy, he was a logger, then went to work at Hank & Earl's Auto Wrecking, later becoming the owner. John also operated the family apple orchard for many years. He was known for his love of spending time with his family in the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, motorcycling and ATVing. He is survived by his wife, Deanne; son Erik Johan (Angie) and granddaughter, Hayden; daughter, Heidi (Carl) and grandson Kalle Johan; sisters, Kari and Hilda (Robert); brother, Knut (Gloria); brothers-in-law, Dale (Judy) Payne and Herb Rosenberg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haakon and Olga Braathen; an uncle, Ingvald Braaten; and family members in Norway. At his request, there will be no Services at this time. A Remembrance of John's Life for family and friends will be planned for a later date. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Okanogan Regional Home Health and Hospice, or the charity of your choice. Precht-Harrison-Nearents and the Okanogan County Crematory of Okanogan are entrusted with the arrangements.
