Melvin William Warnett, age 85, a resident of East Wenatchee for 66 years, passed from this earthly life to Heaven on January 13, 2008, after a two year battle with cancer. Melvin was born at a little community called Gid, near Melbourne, AR, to William J. and Della (Hulsey) Warnett on December 14, 1922. He moved to East Wenatchee in January 1942, and that same year, met the love of his life, Murdene Richardson. They were married on September 12, 1942. Mel loved hunting and fishing and he and Murdene did lake and salmon fishing at LaPush, Westport and Ilwaco. He worked at Alcoa for 30 years, retiring in 1983. But what he really loved, was growing apples. He owned and operated his apple orchard for 50 years. He was active in his church, serving in any way he could. Mel loved all his friends and family and seemed to have no enemies. He said he thought it was important to treat people as he would want to be treated. Mel was preceded in death by his father and mother; four brothers, Joe, Adam, Elgie and Ray Warnett; one sister, Ellamae Helmer; and grandson, Wade Samuel. He is survived by his loving wife, Murdene; two daughters, Sheila (Jim) Samuel of Hot Springs Village, AR and Glenda Smith of Woodinville, WA; six grandchildren, Todd (Stephanie) Samuel of Pasco, WA, Kris (Doug) Bromley of Marietta, GA, McKensey Smith of Brooklyn, NY, Courtney Smith of Bothell, WA, Jordann Smith of Bothell, WA and Taylor Smith of Woodinville, WA; five great-grandchildren, Almondy Short, Joe (Staci) Samuel, Grant, Danae and Grayson Bromley; and a great-great-grandson, Remington Short. Mel is also survived by three sisters, Pearline Packwood and Ann (Arlis) Grills, both of Wenatchee and Mearline (Harrel) Rice of East Wenatchee; and many nieces and nephews. Public Viewing will be held Thursday, January 17, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 18, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1301 Maple Street, Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
