Harold D. Harvey, 73, passed away at his home on July 6, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Harold was born December 11, 1934, in Aurora, AR to Dallas and Gladys Harvey, Sr. He moved with his family to the Okanogan and Omak area in 1943, where he met and married Joan Batcheller in 1959. They made their home in the Omak and Okanogan area and raised a daughter and a son. Harold had enlisted in the Army in 1954. He returned home and began working at Biles and Coleman Lumber Company for nine years. Harold then tried his hand at meat cutting and worked as meat manager at Thrifty Foods in Okanogan. The grocery store burned down in 1975, and Harold went back to work at the lumber mill, Crown Zellerbach, as a security guard until he retired. Harold was a volunteer fireman with the Okanogan Fire Department for 27 years and loved serving his community. He enjoyed wood crafting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He appreciated the times he spent outdoors with nature, experiencing his favorite campsite and the sound of a creek and a campfire. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan, at home; a daughter and her husband, Carrie and Dennis Hawkins of Colville, WA and a son and his wife, Mark and Kim Harvey of Eugene, OR; two beautiful granddaughters, Tiffany and Katey, also of Eugene, OR, who were his pride and joy; two brothers, Vernon Harvey and wife, Betty of Malott, WA, Don Harvey and his wife, Dorothy of Omak, WA; one sister, Lynda Watts of Riverside, WA; also, many special nieces and nephews. His father and mother; one sister; three brothers and a constant companion, Rosie, all preceded him in death. Graveside Services will be held at Okanogan Valley Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Precht-Harrison-Nearants Chapel is in charge of the caring arrangements. Any donations may be made to Our House, cancer treatment housing, at 1708 Castlerock Avenue, Wenatchee, WA 98801.
