Lindsey "Kaika" Kinney "The Flying Hawaiian"

Kaika Kinney, 45, long time resident of Molokai, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008. He was born June 6, 1962, at Queen's Hospital on Oahu. Living on Lake Tapps, he enjoyed all water sports, later attending school at Enumclaw High School, where he was employed as a lifeguard. He would work on local lakes as a lifeguard for the state. Upon graduation, he received a scholarship to UTI, which later turned into a career as a Ferrari Technician. Upon returning to Auburn, WA, he met and married Christine Joyce Fahlgren. Kaleo Lindsey Kaika Kinney was born February 7, 1992. Kaika later returned to the islands and pursued a career in freelance diving, charting time on the Pride of Maui and various other vessels, helping tourists experience the same love he had for the ocean. He later found employment with the Maui Ocean Center. Two years ago, Kaika was in a car accident, where he was medivaced from Molokai to Oahu and he returned to Washington State for rehab of his multiple life threatening injuries, from which he never fully recovered. He is survived by his son, Kaleo Kinney of Auburn; sisters, Heather Ramos and Brooke Kinney of Renton; brother, Jason Weigel; mother, Ginger Hendrickson, both of East Wenatchee; father, Lindsey Kinney of Renton; aunt, Gina Bernett; stepfathers, Loran Hendrickson and Keith Weigel. He was loved by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from the Kinney's, Weigel's and Hendrickson's from multiple states. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at a later date in Hawaii. Memorial donations may be made to Colonial Vista of Wenatchee.
