Roberta Huffman Bulleri
Thursday, October 23, 2008
Roberta Huffman Bulleri died peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Columbia Heights Assisted Living in Wenatchee, where she has comfortably resided for the past year. Roberta was vibrant and engaged, until the time of her passing. Roberta was born on April 9, 1924, in Quincy, WA to Mildred and Frank Huffman. She moved to Wenatchee with her mother and two sisters, Marili and Mary Frances Huffman in 1933. Frank Huffman continued to manage the Quincy Farmer's Elevator Company during the week and traveled to the family home on the corner of Washington Park and Miller Street every weekend. Roberta graduated from Wenatchee High School and was Apple Blossom Princess in 1942. She attended the University of Washington from 1942 to 1946, where she joined the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and continued her musical studies in Piano as well as business studies. Roberta carried her love of music throughout her life and was an accomplished pianist. Roberta returned to Quincy to work with her father, Frank Huffman at Quincy Farmer's Elevator. She met Joseph Bulleri in 1953. Joe, who was known for his astute decision making, asked Roberta to marry him on their fi rst date. They were married on October 3, 1953. Their adored only son, Peter, was born in 1954. Roberta was a stay at home mother with their special needs son, until Peter was placed at Lakeland Village, where he has comfortably resided since. With the help of Frank Huffman, Joe and Roberta purchased the International Harvester Dealership and building in Quincy that same year, with Les Gius.
Joe and Roberta later purchased and ran the Bulleri Orchards in Quincy and were partners with other growers in a Quincy controlled atmosphere fruit storage operation. Joe and Robert were longtime members and supporters of the Quincy Catholic Church and Joe was an active Rotarian in Quincy for over 30 years. The Bulleri's were world travelers, winning several trips through the International Harvester Sales Awards. They retuned three times to their beloved Italy, where they became acquainted with Joe's family in Milano. Roberta was a remarkable woman — she was smart, determined when required, gracious, generous and a treasured friend. She and Joe were truly second parents to the three children born to her sister, Marili and brother-in-law, Al Libke of Wenatchee. Roberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe; Marili's husband, Al Libke; and her nephew, Robert Libke. Roberta's younger sister, Mary Frances Huffman Stearns, died in Vancouver, WA three days after Roberta. Roberta is survived by her older sister, Marili Libke Benjamin of Columbia Heights; nephew, Al Libke, Jr., M.D. and his daughter, Kenna Libke of Hailey, ID; niece, Marili Libke Rounds of Wenatchee and her children, Jeff and his wife, Jill Rounds of Wenatchee, Corby Rounds of Ellensburg, Charyn Rounds Lhyle and husband, Marcke of Kirkland, WA; nephews, Roland Stearns and wife, Angelica of Anchorage, AK and Frank Stearns of Vancouver, WA; sister-in-law, Ida Fabian of Montana; niece, Mary Ann Freeman of Montana; nephew, Joe Fabian of Montana; niece, Helen Delanoy of Montana; niece, Patricia Thul of Buckley, WA; and the Bulleri's dear friends, Mike and Theresa Flinn of Quincy, WA. AMemorial Service is planned for Thursday, November 6, 2008, at the Quincy Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. A Gathering will follow at Rosey's in Quincy. In lieu of fl owers, the family suggests donations to the St. Pius X Quincy Catholic Church, the Quincy Rotary or to Special Olympics.
