Leroy Edwin Gray "He never knew a stranger"

Leroy Edwin Gray, born June 2, 1938, to Leone (White) Gray and Jackson Gray in Twisp, WA, died September 6, 2008, in Colville, WA. Leroy was raised in Winthrop, WA, graduating in 1957. He then became a smoke jumper at North Cascade Jump Base, jumping summers and attending barber school during the winters. He attained his barber's license in Seattle, WA. Leroy then served in the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, AK and after being discharged, remained, smoke jumping for the Bureau of Land Management in Fairbanks. Leroy married Charlotte Miller, June 17, 1961, and had three children. Upon returning from Alaska, he graduated from Wenatchee Valley College, Wenatchee, WA and California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, CA, becoming a Licensed Funeral Director. In 1975, he took a job with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Grand Coulee, WA. He met Roberta Trevino while detailed in Arizona. Leroy and Roberta "Bert" were married in Winthrop, WA on October 31, 1987, and lived in Electric City, WA until his retirement in January, 2000. The Grays then made their home in Colville, WA, where Leroy could often be found working in his leather shop. He belonged to the Twisp Grange, Panorama Rodeo Association, Old Timers, Masonic Lodge and Winthrop Rodeo Association. Leroy is survived by his wife, Roberta of Colville, WA; his children, Ross Gray of Grand Coulee, Carmen Gray of Wenatchee, Kirk Gray of Seattle, Lisa (John) Knox of Hayden, ID, Eugene (Sheri) Trevino of Rockford, WA and Mike (Deanna) Trevino of Valleyford, WA; grandchildren, Sarah, Wylie, Alex, Zachary, Nathan, Leticia, Garrett and Jacob; brother, Vern (Marilyn) Gray of East Wenatchee; uncle, Don (Nell) White of Winthrop; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Neil. Memorial Services for Leroy will be held Sunday, October 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Winthrop Barn Community Center in Winthrop, WA.
