Delight S. Darley

Delight S. Darley, 93, of Cashmere, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Delight and Ellis, her husband of 70 years, retired to Cashmere in 1978. Their long life together was full of adventures. Delight lived in Liberia, Africa and Guatemala, taking the lead in raising their two young sons, while Ellis worked respectively for the Firestone Rubber Company and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A souvenir from Guatemala was a stray bullet, dug from their house's plaster, following a short revolution. Finally, the family settled in Riverside, CA, where their daughter was born. They resided there during Ellis' long career as a Professor at the University of California. Here, Delight raised her three kids, kept the "home fires burning" and completed a college degree after the kids left home. Her Cashmere years were marked by her passion for tending their beautiful garden, hiking the Cascades, canning fruit, needle working and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Darley of Cashmere; her sons, Marshall Darley of Athens, GA and Paul Darley of Bainbridge Island, WA; and her daughter, Ruth Ellsworth of Spokane, WA. Delight and Ellis have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of her Life is being planned for early January in Cashmere. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at jonesjonesbetts.com. Arrangements by Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home, Wenatchee.

Ellis, Kathy and I are thining of you in this time of sorrow. Please let us know if we can do anything for you. Kathy would often come back from her Wenatchee World hikes with the two of you saying how much in love you two were. God bless and take care. Joe and Kathy Herron.

Ellis and family, I was my honor to help care for Delight! To watch the dedication of Ellis was amazing! Whenever I see Bread and Butter pickles, I shall remember the many discussions we had about our favorite foods! Thank you for the opportunity to share in your lives...
