Chester William "Chet" Hutchins
Thursday, December 17, 2009
Surrounded by love, Chester "Chet" William Hutchins, 74, was called by the Lord on October 16, 2009, following a spirited 11 month fight with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Chet was born January 15, 1935, in Centralia, WA to Chester "Chet" William Hutchins, Sr. and Velma Ruth Clapper-Hutchins. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1938, where he went to school, graduating from Wenatchee High in 1954, then attending Whitworth College in Spokane, before enlisting in the Navy. Chet bought a Vending Franchise, extending from San Francisco through Pleasanton and down to Santa Barbara and Bakersfield, CA, which he operated for almost 50 years. He married his wife, Bobbe Jo Haffner in 1960, and had two sons born in California, where they lived until 1970, then the family moved back to Wenatchee. He and his wife Bobbe opened Don Quixotes in 1975, at the Wenatchee Valley Mall and were there 14 years before opening a second store in the mall, Kitchen Addition in 1987. Ten years later, Kitchen Addition was moved to downtown Wenatchee, before they retired in 2005. Chet was a man full of integrity. He was a quiet, kind and sensitive man to all who knew him as a friend and family member. He was extremely dedicated to family, showing his love by spending many years boating, skiing, fishing and his favorite, camping, with his sons and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chet Sr.; and brother, Bill. He will dearly and greatly be missed by his beloved wife of 48 years; sons, Chet (wife, Tracy, grandson, Jacob) and Chad (wife, Alicia); his mother, Velma; his sister, Melanie; sister-in-law, Debbie; and brothers-in-law, Gail (wife, Trace), Mike (wife, Laura) and Jim (wife, Candy); and numerous nephews, nieces and their families.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns. With special thanks to Dr. Sareena Malhi and the Oncology Team; Dr. John Gill, our family doctor; the Infusion Room staff at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center; and the amazing Central Washington Hospital Oncology nursing staff, who became wonderful friends.
God Bless you all!
