Frances "Betty" Ignatowicz was born June 27, 1926, to Scott and Effie Beckett of Charleston, WV. Betty moved to Wilmington, DE at eight years of age. She completed her schooling and met her future husband, Joseph W. Ignatowicz. They were married January 19, 1952. They established their residence in Claremont, DE, while Joe worked at Scott Paper Company in Chester, PA. They later purchased their first home in Ridley Park, PA. Joe was offered an opportunity to relocate to Everett, WA with Scott Paper, as they were establishing a plant in the Puget Sound area. Joe and Betty resided in Lynnwood, WA, raising their two daughters, Barbara and Mary. Betty attended Central Washington University, receiving her Montessori teaching certificate and worked for many years at Little Way Montessori School in Edmonds and Lynnwood, WA, while her daughters were in high school. Betty's love for children extended into her "Montessori family," as she shared her love and warmth with her pupils, who affectionately called her "Mrs. Betty". Joe and Betty sold the family home and moved to Everett, WA in the early 1980's, with Joe taking early retirement from Scott Paper. Joe and Betty loved to travel the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada, taking their family on many wonderful camping trips when the girls were small. In the 1960's, they discovered beautiful Lake Chelan and soon chose to spend their summers there, maintaining a summer residence for the next 40 years. Their daughters and their families continued to spend time every summer with Joe and Betty at the lake. When they retired, they chose to spend their winters in the California desert, enjoying dry weather, golf and the many friends they met during their winter travels. Joe and Betty moved permanently to Wenatchee seven years ago, when winter travel and maintaining two homes became more difficult. Their residence in Wenatchee allowed them to be close to their daughter, Mary, and nearby their many friends from Lake Chelan. Joe passed in April 2007, and Betty maintained her home in Wenatchee until she became hospitalized in late November.

Their surviving family includes their daughters, Barbara and Mary, their husbands and three grandsons, Bryan Lorenz, Brice Callahan and Branden Callahan.

At Betty's request, a Private Service was held Wednesday, December 16, 2009, for family members only. She now rests with her husband, Joe, at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, in memory of Frances Ignatowicz. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at jonesjonesbetts.com. Arrangements by Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home, Wenatchee.
