Alvina Goehner, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2009. She was born to Ben and Tillie Schadler on June 4, 1931, in Jamestown, ND. She spent her childhood years there, moving to Tacoma in 1944. In 1945, they moved to Dryden, where she attended high school and graduated. It was there also, that she met Walt Goehner and in July 1949, they were married. They lived in Dryden all of their married life, where they raised three children. Her love for the Lord and people, led her to invest her life, along with her husband, in youth work, both in the church and outside of the church and in ministering in two churches. She was a talented musician who directed choirs, but most often was found at the piano and sometimes the organ. Many were blessed by her musical talents. She was an avid reader who loved books and was a librarian for several years in the Peshastin/Dryden school district. She invested her life and faith in many special individuals over the years, ministering to numerous families and women through Bible studies and discipleship.
She loved her family and was very involved with their lives. She leaves a husband, Walt; a daughter, Noni (Bill) Forsberg; two sons, Keith (Lisa) Goehner and Dwight (Carol) Goehner; nine grandchildren, Jeff (Diana) Forsberg, Jeremy (Ronda) Forsberg, Jon Forsberg, Brendan (Tiffany) Goehner, Heidi (Josh) Hill, Benjamin Goehner, Christina (Manny) Robles and Chris (Stephanie) Goehner; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Stella) Schadler; three sisters-in law; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one granddaughter.

Walt, Keith, Lisa and family, I loved your wife and mother. Her shy smile indicated the Christlike humility that punctated her life. Peace be to her memory.
The halls of heaven bustle with the faithful, who persevered until their race was won. At home at last, they long for us to follow. They wait and watch as we continue on; to reach the joy of that Eternal City and hear the Father’s voice say, “Child, well done!”
The choice is ours to finish what we started; to keep the promises we made in love, to hurdle over obstacles life sends us, to turn a cheek when others push and shove, to go the distance when our wills are weary, to run our race aware of those above.
So let us run with Christ as our example, not giving up when pressures pull us down, looking beyond our present-day afflictions to glimpse a goal… a priceless victor’s crown. God give us grace to reach our destination with head held high, our hopes to fin’lly own.
The above poem is based on Hebrews 12:1-3 (tune: “Finlandia”)
