George J. Rogers

George J. Rogers, age 89, of Oroville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Orchard Park Nursing Home in Tacoma. A lifelong resident of Washington State, he was born in Chelan, WA on March 19, 1920, the youngest of four brothers, all of whom preceded him in death. George graduated from Oroville High School in 1937. He attended Washington State University until he enlisted in the Army in February of 1942. George served in the Pacific until the fall of 1945, when he was able to return to college. George married Virginia Loudon on June 2, 1946, and they moved to Pullman, WA, where George completed his college degree. George and Virginia worked in the apple industry and lived in Omak, Wapato, Yakima and Entiat, before returning to Oroville and purchasing an orchard in 1956. George remained in the apple industry until his retirement in 1985. George and Virginia were active members of the Oroville Grange, the American Legion and the United Methodist Church. He and Virginia continued to reside in Oroville, until Virginia's death in 2003. George remained at the family home until November of 2008. Then he visited his son over the holidays last year, and moved to live with his daughter in January 2009, in Tacoma, until mid October 2009, when he entered Orchard Park Nursing Home.
He is survived by one daughter, Gail Rogers Hanson of Tacoma; one son, Alan Rogers and wife, Helen of Fullerton, CA; four grandchildren, Chris Hanson, Courtney Hanson, Baylee Rogers and Rebecca Rogers; and one great-grandson, Sebastian.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oroville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Karen Davison officiating. Military Graveside Services will follow at the Oroville Riverview Cemetery, with the Oroville American Legion officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Bergh Funeral Service of Oroville/Tonasket in care of arrangements.
