Don Springer, 55, a lifelong resident of Peshastin, died Sunday June 7, 2009, at his home in Peshastin with his family by his side, after an extended battle with prostate cancer. Don was born on March 7, 1954, at Leavenworth, to Charles and Ione (Sauer) Springer. He was raised in Peshastin, graduating from Peshastin-Dryden High school in 1973. Don then attended Bates Vocational and Technical Institute in Tacoma, receiving a diploma in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanics. After graduation, he returned to Peshastin and worked at the Peshastin Garage, his father's equipment repair business. After his father's death in 1979, Don continued the business, forming Springer Brothers with his brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Kathy, where he worked until his death. Don was a student of WW II. He researched military equipment and battles and assembled models of military planes and battleships. He was also fascinated with steam engines; he inherited his grandfather's Case steam tractor, which he routinely maintained and operated. Don was a big fan of NASCAR, Chevrolets and Budweiser.He is survived by his mother, Ione Springer of Peshastin; two brothers, Charles (Jennifer) Springer of Orlando, FL and Bob (Kathy) Springer of Peshastin; and nieces, Danielle and Ashley Springer of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles M. Springer.A Memorial Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Don Springer will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peshastin United Church of Christ, 8455 Main Street, Peshastin. Private Family Inurnment will be in the Peshastin Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Washington Hospital Hospice Fund at 933 Red Apple Road, Wenatchee, WA, 98801 or the Peshastin Library at P.O. Box 668, Peshastin, WA 98847-0688. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
