On May 6, 2009, our beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born July 3, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY to Jerrould and Virginia Smith. After an exciting and somewhat glamorous life, she married, at the age of 33, John A. Mullen of Spokane, WA. From there, they moved to Pittsburgh, PA and then on to Vancouver, WA and Wenatchee, WA. She had just moved to Spokane Valley to be closer to her daughter's family. Our mom was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Wenatchee, WA, where she served as Deanery Chair for two years, and was ECW President for three years. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter DZ in Wenatchee, a member of DAR, and for 16 years, she served as a Salvation Army Board Member. Attending Attic Dusters, playing bridge and Maj Jong with her dear friends, was what she treasured most each week.Mom was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Mullen. Janet is survived by her son, John K. Mullen and girlfriend, Leilani Dipaula, both of Wenatchee; daughter, Susan Peterson of Spokane, WA; son-in-law, Dan; and two, much loved grandsons, Ryan and Andrew. She is also survived by her brother, Jerrould W. Smith, Jr. of Sarasota, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Our mother was a generous, beautiful woman, who touched the lives of many throughout her life. She loved to share stories about her adventures in New York City and had a great sense of humor. Although she will be missed so very much, we are grateful that she is now in the presence of the Lord, along with our dad.A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Wenatchee, WA on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Spokane, WA or St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Wenatchee, WA.
