Series/League Notes
Tornado backup goaltender Branden Amatto hails from Spokane. ... The Wild are 6-1 at Town Toyota Center so far this season. Their other two “home” wins came in the NAHL Showcase. ... Since getting released Oct. 1 after a short stint (five games) with the Wild, Tyler Sybil has caught on with Texas. He is scoreless in three games with the Tornado. ... Texas won back-to-back league titles in 2005 and 2006. The Tornado took a one-year hiatus last season while their home arena was being remodeled. ... After Friday’s game, the Wild will have played against 15 of the 18 other teams currently in the league. The three they haven’t played: Springfield, Owatonna and the first-year expansion Janesville Jets.
WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Wild knew heading into the season that they had one of the league’s best goalies in second-year player Mac Carruth.
But what they and the rest of the league are quickly finding out is that the other guy isn’t too shabby either.
Brandon Jaeger is a perfect 8-0 on the year with a league-best 1.71 goals against average. In fact the Wild have only trailed once in a game Jaeger has started, and then only for 3 minutes, 8 seconds.
“I love it here, it’s an amazing place to play,” Jaeger said. “It’s easy to play in front of such good home crowds. I’m glad I made the team.”
Carruth, with a league-best 11 wins, is also in the top 10 with a 2.43 GAA.
That’s what the Texas Tornado will be up against when they visit Town Toyota Center on Friday and Saturday.
The Tornado are no strangers to tough competition. Half of their first 16 games have been against either St. Louis or Topeka, two of the top teams in the league. The Tornado have actually split four games with three-time defending Robertson Cup champion St. Louis so far, handing the Bandits two of their four losses on the season.
The Wild, with the most grueling stretch of their schedule behind them — the team played 15 games in four time zones in a 23-day stretch after the NAHL Showcase — now have a relatively light schedule for the next two months. Wenatchee has just eight games in November and three in December, and that stretch includes just one four-game road trip to Alaska to take on the Alaska Avalanche and Kenai River Brown Bears.
