Nell Elizabeth (Rains) Towne was born June 14, 1926, in Morgantown, NC, to William Hayward "Bill" and Ellen Rains, joining her brother, Frank. She passed away October 1, 2009, at Central Washington Hospital. Nell graduated from Okanogan High School in 1944. She married Ronald W. Towne on January 19, 1946, in Seattle, WA and they shared 63 years together. They lived in San Diego, CA and Boston, MA, until settling in East Wenatchee, WA. Nell went to beauty school to become a Beautician and also worked in the local packing sheds. She and Ron built two homes together and became part-time orchardists. Nell and Ron had two children, Kevin and Karen Wold, whom they adopted as infants. She devoted years to traveling with Kevin and Karen, while they were involved with the Wenatchee Swim Team and the Wenatchee Youth Circus. She made costumes by hand for the circus and was affectionately known as "Momma Towne" to all who knew her. She loved kids and was involved with foster kids and the Children's Home Society. Nell loved to cook and bake, as well as doting on her two grandchildren, Jason and Amanda Wold. One of her favorite shows was "Wheel of Fortune" and she would watch it every night, if Dad didn't have the remote, watching the Mariners. She and Dad loved to boat and belonged to the Wenatchee Boat Club. Dad recalls a time, when they went out in the morning waterskiing, taking off from Lake Chelan State Park; Dad fell off half way across the lake and she didn't notice he was gone until she got to Manson. They enjoyed going to Manson and Lake Easton with their RV and going to Idaho to their time-share. They occasionally liked to gamble. Mom would usually be the big winner at the slots, winning enough nickels to buy them lunch. They took an Alaskan cruise in the summer of 2008, further enjoying their travels together.

Mom touched a lot of lives over the years and will be missed through the years to come.

My sympathies to you and your family; my mother (Edith Foubert) was a friend of Nell's and I remember Nell as having a warmth about her and a great sense of humor. She is remembered as a very good woman, who was a very good friend to my mother. God bless you all.
