Slick roads send drivers skittering

Students from Wenatchee High School walk along Miller Street before school began this morning. Considering the slick streets, walking might’ve been a lot of people’s best option.
WENATCHEE — Frozen roadways at bridges and overpasses were factors in five accidents reported this morning by the Washington State Patrol.
Three were at the west entrance to Wenatchee, where there are two overpasses and a bridge, said Rich Magnussen, State Patrol spokesman. Another was at an overpass near Dryden. No one was injured in any of those accidents but a one-car accident on a bridge over the Wenatchee River near Cashmere injured a passenger.
Henedine Bravo, 60, East Wenatchee, suffered head and chest injuries when the car she was riding in went out of control on the bridge four miles west of Cashmere on Highway 2/97 and came to rest across the highway.
According to the State Patrol, she was taken to Central Washington Hospital. But officials there had no record of her being treated.
The driver of that car was Rafael Bravo, 67, East Wenatchee who complained of back pain after the accident. He was not taken in an ambulance to a medical facility, the State Patrol said.
Magnussen said motorists need to realize that winter weather is here and be cautious, especially when going over bridges and overpasses where roadways tend to freeze sooner and stay frozen longer than other surfaces.
Freezing roadways are expected to continue to be a problem as the National Weather Service is predicting a 30 percent chance of snow after 10 p.m. tonight, with lows around 33 degrees. Officials predict an accumulation of less than half of an inch.
On Wednesday, Veterans Day, there is a 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 10 a.m.
