Connell at Cashmere

When: 2 p.m. Saturday

How they got here: Casmere beat Kiona-Benton 1-0, advancing on Stephanie Zamudio’s 37th goal of the season. Connell beat Naches 1-0.

The Eagles: The team, which represents District 5, is coached by Hugo Garcia. The Eagles (17-3) were the runners-up in the SCAC this season and advanced to state as a No. 2 seed.

The Bulldogs: Cashmere, the Caribou Trail League and District 6 champion, is coached by Dennis Tronson. They’re a No. 1 seed for the tournament.

The history: Saturday will be the fifth state tournament meeting between the schools. Cashmere won the only other previous Class 1A meeting 1-0 in 2007. In Class 2A, Connell won 2-1 in the first round in 2004 and 1-0 in a shootout in the state semis in 2003. The Bulldogs beat the Eagles 4-0 in the 2001 quarterfinals.

Overlake at Okanogan

When: 11 a.m. Saturday

How they got here: Okanogan beat Highland 2-0 behind goals from Ines Huizar and Jennifer Widell, while Overlake blasted Lakeside 5-1.

The Owls: Overlake, located in Redmond, is coached by Sally Goodspeed. The Owls (15-1-3) were runners-up to Seattle Academy in the Emerald City League, then went 3-0 in district play to land the No. 4 seed from the Tri-District (District 1/2/3) tournament.

The Bulldogs: Okanogan (15-5), the runners-up in the CTL and the No. 2 seed from the district, is coached by Dean Klepec.

The history: Tuesday’s win was the second in four trips to state for the Bulldogs. Their only previous win came in 2006, when they beat Cascade 3-1 at home in the first round. Okanogan lost to Connell 2-0 in the first round of last year’s tournament.

Overlake is making its fourth straight trip to the state tournament. The Owls lost in the first round in 2006 and 2007, and last season reached the semifinals, where they were beaten by King’s. Overlake has been to state 13 times since 1993.
