WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley College women’s basketball team will tip off its 2009-10 season on Saturday with a non-league matchup with Edmonds Community College.
The Knights will square off with the Tritons at 3 p.m. at Smith Gymnasium as they begin their quest to improve on their 2-12 league record of a year ago.
Wenatchee Valley returns three sophomores from last year’s squad, and Rachel Goetz takes over as the team’s full-time coach after splitting the head duties with Mike Walker for the past two seasons.
Edmonds also fields a young squad, with just one sophomore returning from last year’s team.
The Tritons are also on the hunt for a little redemption in 2009, after going through all of last season without a victory.
Edmonds went 0-16 in the NWAACC North and finished 0-23 overall.
The WVC men’s team open its season at 5 p.m. Nov. 28 against Grays Harbor at the Skagit Valley Turkey Tourney in Mount Vernon.
